Medieval Street Band

RoughMusicke2.jpg

Playing traditional instruments including Border pipes and a variety of medieval woodwind, Rough Musicke's sound combines early music traditions and raucous percussion.

Inspired by folk and early music groups from the continent, the band aims to bring traditional tunes to new audiences. With a strong rythmn section, Rough Musicke play danceable melodies in a style rarely heard in the UK.

Rough Musicke perform at outdoor events, processions and street festivals on acoustic instruments designed to be heard! We are also bookable for indoor performances on instruments suited to concert settings.

Rough Musicke was an idea born from BASH's Sandwich 1457 celebrations. A group of musicians were brought together by the events and, discovering a shared love of upbeat medieval music, formed a band in the autumn of 2007. An inspirational trip to the Greenwich Early Music Festival led to members discovering and playing new instruments. The group has been fostered by experimental musician Peter Cook, who leads the band during rehearsals. Peter's diverse musical experience and love of improvisation has helped Rough Musicke diverge from the early music norm.
